About AuralRoom
Aural tests are a small part of a music exam with an outsized effect on nerves. Pupils practise their pieces for months but meet the aural tests a few times — usually in the last lessons, when there is least time. AuralRoom gives them a patient examiner at home: it plays the tests in the format of their board and grade, listens to the singing and clapping, and marks the hardest bit — talking about the music.
Who we are
AuralRoom is made by Northpine Labs LLC, a small independent software studio. We are musicians and engineers; we are not an exam board and we are not affiliated with ABRSM, Trinity College London, The Royal Conservatory of Music or the Australian Music Examinations Board.
What we believe
- Practice material should sound like music. Our phrases follow the rules of tonal melody and voice-leading, and the repertoire questions use real public-domain pieces with our own performance markings.
- Children's privacy comes first. Listening happens on the device; we keep no recordings, ask for no child's name, and use no advertising trackers on practice pages.
- Honest marks. A mock gives an estimate on the board's scale and shows where marks slip. It is a guide, not a promise of a result.
